about natural schoolwear

Natural Schoolwear started with a simple question: what is a school uniform actually made of?

A uniform is the piece of clothing children wear more than any other. Five days a week, forty weeks a year, for thirteen years, often for eight to ten hours a day against bare skin. Yet most of us buy it the same way: check the size, check the price, tick the box on the school list.

When we looked closer, we found uniforms designed to solve real problems for busy families, with fabrics that resist creases and finishes that repel stains. We also found that some of those solutions come with trade-offs. Stain-resistant finishes can contain PFAS, the so-called forever chemicals. Wrinkle-free resins can release formaldehyde. Polyester blends dry fast but trap heat and sweat on long, hot Australian days.

What we're making

We're building a range of school uniforms in organic cotton: polos, shirts, dresses, shorts and trousers that breathe, feel soft from the first wash and hold up to the playground. We leave out the chemical finishes children don't need, and we choose dyes and trims with sensitive skin in mind.

We won't claim our uniforms prevent illness, because no clothing can. What we can do is leave out what isn't needed, and back every claim with certification you can check for yourself.

Working with schools

We want to make it easy for schools to offer a natural option, whether that's one summer polo alongside the existing list or a full uniform. If you're a principal, uniform coordinator or P&C member, get in touch and we'll send you an information pack.

Honest about the evidence

Our blog covers the research on uniform fabrics, finishes, skin and heat in plain language. We're careful to separate what's known from what's still emerging, because parents deserve facts, not fear.
